Agriculture: France welcomes the Joint Statement of the 27 European Ministers

Didier Guillaume, Minister of Agriculture and Food, welcomes the Joint Statement signed today, on 17 April 2020, by all of his counterparts, for the attention of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development, to ensure the urgent implementation of support measures in light of the Covid-19 epidemic.

Last Tuesday, the Minister held talks with Commissioner Janusz Wojciechowski to remind him of the calls that France had issued right from the early days of the health crisis: grasp the full extent and gravity of the considerable crisis gripping European Union (EU) countries, affecting their economies and severely disrupting their agriculture and agri-food sectors. This is why the EU must, in all urgency, show solidarity and responsiveness by activating the regulation instruments for which common market organisation makes provision.

Today, on 17 April 2020, the 27 Agriculture Ministers have signed an unprecedented Joint Statement, demonstrating the validity and unity of the European agricultural stakeholders’ calls. All of the Member States expect the EU to take urgent, meaningful action as befits a common agricultural policy that protects its agriculture and food.
